PostSubject: Deep House   July 11th 2007, 11:48 pm

Hey Champs,

I was wondering if anyone could lead me in the direction of some good deep house blogs/Forums/websites ?
I have a few gigs coming up which i'm going to need to play more cruisy music for weddings, lazy arvo , sunset summer parties etc ...and to be honest i'm starting to get a bit over this electro/minimal craze so i would like to explore more of whats out there in that genre..

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Cheers ! ! sunny

I was just mentioning in another part of the forum, that with weddings, you are highly likely to be dealing with parents, and parents of parents, and sometimes ignorant snobs. It is wise to have PLENTY of retro and classic hits. Most weddings I have done have had crowds that would throw a glass at my head if I played electro or similar genre. From experience, most weddings (although boring) work better when you stay "Cliche", plenty of 70s & 80s party tunes and go from there. If you have heaps of party stuff you can be safe to use it all night if need be.lol!

No trying to contradict djdeeds & since working clubs & bars for the last 18 years it's been a long time from my mobile years doing weddings & stuff. The thing is though Ive been to plenty of weddings and sometimes there is nothing WORSE than the dj playing stereo-typical wedding shit like 70's & 80's and cheese. Yes I agree there will be some older peeps there but again not all old guys & girls like shite.

At the end of the day It's the happy couple's day and its them who have forked out thousands for their day so make them happy. It's a good chance that they are gonna be in their 20's and so will most of their friends so would be more that happy and supprised for the dj to play some credible tunes I know I would.

If I wasn't doing what I'm doing I would set up a company supplying mobile jocks who dont just play 70's & 80's at birthdays & weddings. The 70's was 30 years ago now and times have moved on. Yes the classics will always go down but there are some classics from the 90's now which appeal to a wide age group Robin S, Sandy B etc.

Whatever you decide I hope the night goes well and u shine m8.

Paul.

Thanks guys for your comments, they are very much appreciated !

It's not just for weddings but other parties (eg sunset/ summer parties) where that Genre will be more appropriate for what I need. (I'm from Australia and getting prepared for summer)
So if nobody has any sites or forums, does anyone know of particular DJ's/producers that I could look into or even compilations that would be useful purchasing ?
I have my own ideas and favourites, but just wanting to see what else is out there from the broader knowledge of the DJ community.

Thanks again for your help

oh and btw, the couple who's wedding I'm doing are quite young and asked for Deep House/ Soulful house for there tunes.

Excellent advice guys Wink

It would probably be easier , Camo, to give you a few labels that specialise in the soulful, deeper house than list a lot of artists.

you can't go wrong with anything from

OM Records, Naked music, Salted music, NRK, Seamless

for the soulful sound.

Try and find something by Miguel Migs, or Jay-J to give you an idea of the sound these labels produce (for me there is no better !!).

As for deeper I highly recommend anything by

Plastic City, Pesto - Dessous - Babayak Shayan.

You might want to try to some of the Hedkandi series, the "Beach House"

and the "Deeper" series are excellent.

good luck Cool
